Dietes iridioides is also sometimes listed under Moraea. It is a rhizomatous perennial from Southern Africa, and does best in frost free zones with dry Summers.
Although designated as hardy to Zone 9, it survives outside in my garden in Central England (Zone 8), given plenty of protection (fallen leaves, straw etc.).
Flowers are followed by large elongated green seed pods that are full of small, hard black seeds.
Propagation:
Dietes iridioides is easy to raise from seed, by careful division of the rhizomes, or by the offsets that form on the flower spike after flowering.
