Strelitzia regina is the most well-known of this genus of half a dozen species of evergreen perennials from South Africa. It is a vigorous clump-forming herb with banana-like leaves, producing exotic blue and orange flowers resembling the beak of a large bird.
Rated hardy to Zone 9, Strelitzia reginae does well in a large tub in a heated conservatory where a night temperature of 45-50oF can be maintained.
